Fairey Firefly on Lochnagar
In April 02 Flash and myself finally got round to visiting the Firefly which crashed on Lochnagar in May 1949. We'd attempted to find this site in November 00 before but were foiled by the snow and wind. The site is well worth a visit with extensive remains littering the site. The plane is painted yellow indicating its trainer status at the time of the accident.
Myself standing on one of the wings. Flash examines the V12 Griffon engine, the exhaust pipes are unusually still in place. Myself on the second wing, just emerging from the thawing snow, the roundel is clearly still visible. Flash examines the largest fuselage section to be found at the site. Flash holds up the engine supercharger we believe!
