North American F-100D Super Sabre on Peter Hill
In May 00 Niall McBain and myself visited the site of the Super Sabre crash after having first climbed a Munro near Braemar. The plane came down in 1969 after the pilot had safely ejected. Two small areas of debris were all that we could find in the vicinity. Don't be fooled by the photographs, it snowed, sleeted and hailstoned for most of the day then the skies cleared just as we neared the site to give the misleading impression that it was a lovely day!
Niall McBain looks at the wreckage and says "I climbed all the way up here for this!" Myself, the sad anorak, quite happy with what was found. A view over the hills from the crash site. Myself foraging amongst the wreckage.
